Root Beer's Story
Root Beer moved to the Ranch several weeks ago after we had been helping his owner's try and rehabilitate a severely split hoof. He is a gorgeous paint with a very gentle and calm personality. He was originally bred at the Nay Ranch out of the Nucla area and has bounced around from home to home for years. A kind family from Olathe saw him in yet another sale barn and they wanted to help this gentle boy - they saw the horrible injury to his hoof and purchased him with the intent of helping him heal. The family contacted us to help with his rehabilitation, as it was more than they could handle. We had an equine podiatrist work with him, after numerous x-rays of his severely damaged hoof, it was determined that there was a lot of trauma resulting from his split hoof that had not been taken care of at the time of this old injury. He has major arthritis and bone build up in his injured hoof and we are in the process of getting it all taken care of with the help of our Veterinarian & Farrier. After he is rehabilitated and healed, he will be up for adoption - he will never be a trail horse after this injury, but would be suitable for flat, arena riding. We will never know how the injury occurred, but we are dedicated to help this sweet boy heal and have a good quality of life.
