Pepper Jack’s Story
End of the Trail Horse Rescue offers homes to abused, abandoned and neglected horses of all ages. We give rescue horses a second chance.
Meet Pepper Jack — the Donkey With a Heart as Big as His Ears
When Pepper Jack first arrived at our Ranch, he was a fragile, starved one-year-old who had already endured more hardship than any animal should. With time, nutritious feed, gentle hands, and patient care, he bloomed into the bright, healthy, affectionate donkey we know today.
Pepper Jack is now one of the quiet heroes of our mental health programs. His calm presence, soft nose, and those impossibly big, velvety ears have a way of comforting anyone who stands beside him. He loves to socialize, greet new friends, and lean in for attention — and in return, he brings smiles, steadiness, and healing to countless individuals.
Despite being adopted three times, Pepper Jack has always found his way back to us when his former homes could no longer care for him. Each return has reminded us how deeply this gentle soul needs consistency and security. For that reason, he will remain with us as a cherished permanent resident unless the perfect home comes along — one where he will never again face uncertainty.
Here at the Ranch, Pepper Jack is safe. He is loved. And he is finally home.
If you’d like to support Pepper Jack and animals like him, your kindness helps us continue offering second chances — and forever homes — to those who need them most.
