Shelby’s Story
End of the Trail Horse Rescue offers homes to abused, abandoned and neglected horses of all ages. We give rescue horses a second chance.
Shelby joined Dream Catcher’s Therapy Center in 2017 at the age of 25, bringing with her a lifetime of wisdom, heart, and gentle companionship. From the moment she arrived, it was clear she was something special.
Before coming to us, Shelby spent many years as a treasured partner on the trail. Her previous owner described her as “a great trail horse who loves to go for rides. She is alert and always taking in her surroundings. She handles traffic calmly, crosses roads, hills, ditches, and water with confidence. She is a joy to be with, and we will miss her dearly.” Their love for her still shines through every word.
For 12 years, Shelby also worked cattle—an experience that left her with a keen, attentive eye whenever cows are nearby. But despite her long working life, she has the gentlest soul. She’ll follow you around the pasture like a puppy at feeding time, and nothing makes her happier than being groomed and doted on.
Shelby is a bit shy and tends to stay low in the herd, often getting chased away from food by more dominant horses. Yet she has never shown an ounce of meanness. Her sweetness is constant, quiet, and deeply touching.
At Dream Catcher’s, we lovingly call her our “little old lady.” She embodies everything we value in our therapy horses—kindness, patience, and a heart full of love. Shelby may be small in stature, but she has a way of making everyone who meets her feel seen, safe, and cared for.
We are honored to have Shelby as part of our herd, and even more honored to share her gentle spirit with those who need it most.
