A Little Horse With a Huge Heart
Thunder’s journey to the Ranch began in Louisiana, where a kindhearted woman first saw him being used as a children’s riding horse at a birthday party. It was clear he was struggling — his small size and a severe breathing issue made every ride difficult. Moved by compassion, she knew he needed help and purchased him on the spot to give him a chance at a better life.
After a veterinary exam, she learned that Thunder’s health troubles were worsened by Louisiana’s humidity. He needed a dry climate to breathe comfortably and thrive. Wanting the very best for him, she reached out to us — and thanks to the generosity of people who believe in second chances, we were able to open our gates to this sweet little horse.
Today, Thunder lives happily at the Ranch, where he has become an essential part of our Mental Health programs. His gentle spirit, curiosity, and childlike enthusiasm naturally draw people toward him. Whether it’s children, teens, or adults, Thunder has a gift for making everyone feel seen, calm, and welcome.
He may be small, but his heart is enormous. And because of compassionate people, Thunder now spends his days doing what he does best — bringing joy, comfort, and connection to everyone who meets him.
