LILY! Sponsor, foster, adopt me!

    Name: LILY
    Birth Date: 2023
    Breed: Quarter horse
    Sex: Mare
    Height: 14.3
    Color: Chestnut
    Rideable: Yes – continue training

End of the Trail Horse Rescue offers homes to abused, abandoned and neglected horses of all ages. We give rescue horses a second chance.

Lily has completed 3 months of training and has been doing great! Per her trainer – ‘Lily is doing great in her groundwork, and I just started sitting on her and getting her comfortable with a rider. I believe she will be safe and straightforward to start under saddle. She’s a great learner with a good mind. She’s a personable, smart girl.’ Liz Burke Onufer

Baby Lily, the beautiful filly born to Bree – one of the horses brought to End of the Trail Rescue in 2022 as part of the severe cruelty case known as the Delta Five has begun training. The Delta County Sheriff’s Office brought five horses to our rescue suffering from horrific wounds, serious injuries and profound emotional trauma. After multiple court hearings and several years of uncertainty, End of the Trail Rescue was recently awarded ownership of the Delta Five.

Throughout those years, the horses remained safely in our care. We treated their wounds, restored their health and patiently worked to help them recover from emotional injuries that are often much harder to heal. In the midst of this heartbreaking story came a beautiful blessing: Lily was born at the Rescue on Easter in 2023. ❤️🐴

At the direction of the Sheriff’s Office, we could not publicly share the details of the rescue because of concerns about retaliation and the violent nature of the individuals involved. Now that the court has granted us ownership, we can finally move forward with professional training for Lily and the other horses.

Lily’s mother, Bree, arrived with a horrendous leg injury and was so emotionally traumatized that it has taken years for her to begin feeling safe and comfortable around people. Her progress is a testament to what patience, kindness and consistent care can accomplish.

Lily’s story is one of hope born from unimaginable cruelty. She entered the world surrounded by safety, compassion and love – and she has never had to experience the suffering her mother endured. We are so excited to watch both Lily and Bree begin this next chapter. Their training will require continued patience, professional guidance and financial support, but they are finally free to move forward toward the futures they deserve.
